The Stables

Subject: The Stables Mon May 14, 2012 12:16 am

Bored and kinda lonely, Squirrel walked into the stables. She wasn't really a horse girl, but the Pegasi were nice enough. She pushed open the door to the stables and walked over to the tall, black mare. "Hey girl," she said cheerfully, pulling some carrots out of her pocket. "Hungry?" The mare whinnied as Squirrel fed the carrots to her.

I walk in and pull a few carrots out of my pocket. The stables are so relaxing, and peaceful, definitely the place for me. I walk over to a lovely white stallion and give him the rest of my carrots.

Squirrel looked up. A girl had just walked in. "Hey," she called happily. "What goes?"

I look up when I hear a girl's voice. "Oh, I just wanted to visit the horses."

"Yeah, Pegusi are great," Squirrel said enthusiastically. "I wish all horses had wings, but I suppose that'd really freak out the mortals."

"A few months ago, pegasi would have freaked out me." I laugh after saying this. "Although they are very peaceful." I say thoughtfully.

"I know, right?" Squirrel said, stroking the mane of the black mare. "Oh my gods, I'm being so rude!" she cried suddenly, turning to her. "My name's Squirrel, daughter of Asclepius. Did I pronounce that right?"

"I think so. My name is Irena, daughter of Eirene. They kind of sound alike, Irena and Eirene. Eirene is the goddess of peace."

"Wondered why you seemed so nice!" Squirrel said with a laugh. "My real name's Sandy, but I have the attention span of a squirrel, so... yeah..." She shrugged helplessly.

Apparently so," Squirrel said. "See here, you haven't happened to see any squirrels around? We could always find out. Then again, I suppose it's nice just having a nickname at all that isn't totally embarrassing. I mean, it could be something really bad like 'Nutty' or 'Psycho'. Please don't call me that though - I might take offence."

"Probably not," Squirrel agreed. "And you seem too nice to be the antagonistic type." She smiled easily. Irena was probably the nicest girl she'd ever met.

I find that I have a left over carrot in my pocket, so I feed it to the stallion. "I am glad that you think I'm nice."

"Yeah, I hitchhiked to camp, took a ton of buses. Gods, never take a really long bus-ride. They're a haven for mean girls. Don't even get me started on when they get bored. Sheesh. It's a war-zone."

"Yeah, the Ares kids," Squirrel said, making a face. "Gods, they are so annoying. There's more to life than hurting people for the fun of it."

"I know right?" Squirrel said, rolling her eyes. "And then the Athena kids? Don't even get me started, they're almost as bad. Athena might be a wisdom goddess, but she also personifies battle. I hate people looking at me like they're trying to figure out the best way to kill me."

"It is quite annoying. Then there is all these minor war gods and goddesses, and many other ones are also war- like. It's just annoying."

"War is so over-rated," Squirrel said, fishing in her pockets for a stick of gum. Something [i]other than mint. To her relief, she found some tropical flavored in her left jacket pocket. She took one and offered the pack to Irena. "Want some?" she asked. "I swear they're not poisoned," she added, grinning.

"You don't seem to be the sort of person to go about poisoning innocent children." I grin and take the gum. "Bad strategy also."

"Yeah... I don't think that I could ever bring myself to hurt anyone," Squirrel said, shaking her head. "I'm a healer, not a warrior."

"There can always be more peaceful people in the world. War just tears us apart. That was one of my dad's arguments against war."

"Yeah," Squirrel said with a nod. "Sometimes though, I dunno, peace doesn't work. Maybe it's just a part of being human, this constant fighting."
